Position Title: Director of Advancement and Alumni Relations Location: Headquarters, Beverly, MA – USA Reports To: President Start Date: Immediately Job Summary: The Director, in cooperation with the SFS President, Board of Trustees, and senior SFS staff, is responsible for conceptualizing and implementing strategies to generate financial aid for SFS students, financial support for organizational growth and capacity building, and funding for field-based research projects. The Director oversees and/or directly manages all aspects of SFS fundraising efforts including the annual fund, corporate and foundation relations, prospect research, grants administration, major and planned giving, and development communications. Major Responsibilities: Annual Fund Responsible for the design and implementation of the SFS annual giving program from concept to completion. Includes preparing an action plan with funding goals, content, audience, timing, and channel (mail, e-mail, social media) Oversee and participate in donor acknowledgement and stewardship initiatives Work with outside vendors as necessary to manage all aspects of production and mail services Corporate & Foundation Relations Identify and research new corporate and foundation prospects Develop and implement cultivation and solicitation strategies for specific prospects Write and/or assist field and/or HQ staff in development of proposals to corporate and private foundations Track grant reporting and stewardship and ensure all responsibilities are met Major and Planned Giving Identify and conduct research on individual prospects with the potential to make a major or planned gift to SFS In cooperation with the SFS President and Board of Trustees, develop and implement cultivation, solicitation, and proposal strategies for specific individual major gift prospects (may involve travel) Manage prospect tracking systems to ensure that all stewardship and reporting responsibilities are met by responsible parties Communications for Development and Alumni Relations Implement an effective communication strategy for SFS constituents with the goal of developing financial resources for SFS Write and distribute alumni and donor e-mails and e-newsletters Write and produce SFS annual report and other donor-focused print and web collateral (such as calendars, cards, brochures, etc.) Ensure that the Giving and Alumni sections of the website are accurate and up-to-date. Develop short profiles of key alumni, parents, and donors for use on SFS website and other publications Manage the SFS LinkedIn page and promote its use among alumni, post relevant content Gift Processing and Database Management Design and manage online giving presence, including the creation of forms Enter donations into the database and send acknowledgments with appropriate tax receipting, including the employee giving and sustainers program Liaise with the Finance team on monthly reconciliation of donations Oversee the rollover of students into the database following the completion of their program Events and Volunteer Activities Coordinate special volunteer, social, and fundraising events including the annual scholarship luncheon held in New York Liaison to the SFS Board of Trustees Serve as staff liaison to the Development Committee of the Board Oversee annual appeal and capital solicitations to the Trustees Participate with Chair and President in identifying and cultivating prospective new Board members Strategic Planning and Administration Participate in institutional planning, and consult regularly with senior SFS staff to ensure coordination of programmatic objectives and funding priorities Produce annual fundraising plan that includes specific achievement schedules and goals for annual, foundation/corporation and major/planned giving campaigns Report on fundraising progress to the President and SFS Trustees Collaborate on special projects with SFS Trustees, President and senior staff Collaborate with Information Technology Director to develop, improve, and manage the database Create and manage departmental budgets (development and alumni).
