General Statement of Duties

Faculty members in the School of Nursing are responsible for the implementation of educational programs through classroom instruction and clinical supervision. Class room instruction includes a variety of teaching/ learning strategies directed at meeting student individual learning styles and include but is not limited to lecture, active learning strategies, on line and hybrid instruction. Clinical supervision includes guiding students in evidence based nursing care and practice for individuals across the life cycle in a variety of health care settings. In accordance with the College and School of Nursing expectations for faculty, members of the School of Nursing faculty must meet expected levels of achievement outlined in the School of Nursing Systematic Evaluation Plan in the areas of Teaching Effectiveness, Professional Competence and Activity (Scholarly Activities) and College and Community Service. There are two tracks for faculty in the School of Nursing: a Clinical Track and a Tenure Track. Faculty members can progress in rank (Instructor, Assistant Professor, Associate Professor and Professor) in each track. Reappointment promotion and tenure guidelines are outlined in the Cooperative Agreement by and between the D’Youville College and the D’Youville College Chapter, AAUP.

Distinguishing Features of the Class

  • Provide Effective class room and clinical instruction and supervision
  • Participate in the development, implementation and evaluation of the nursing program
  • Participate in accreditation activities
  • Serve as an active member and in leadership positions for School of Nursing and College Standing Committees
  • Maintain professional competence and certification(if applicable) in specialty area
  • Advise and mentor nursing students
  • Engage in community service
  • Participate in the governance of the School of Nursing
  • Engage in scholarly activities to contribute to the nursing discipline
  •  Engage in professional development activities to maintain currency in nursing practice

Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Academic and experiential expertise in an area of the discipline of Nursing
  • Clear and concise verbal and written communication skills
  • Ability to interact and establish good interpersonal relationships with students, faculty, administrators, staff, the Chair, the Dean, and the public
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
  • Willingness to learn software used on campus
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Ability to meet timelines
  • Capacity to work independently with minimal supervision
  • Ability to establish collaborative relationships with other offices in the college community

Acceptable Education and Experience
A minimum of a Master’s of Science degree in Nursing is required for a clinical track appointment. A minimum of a doctoral degree in nursing or a related field is required for a tenure track appointment. An unencumbered license that is currently registered in the State of New York or eligibility for licensure is required. For an assignment to provide instruction in the Nurse Practitioner Masters and DNP programs, faculty must have licensure as a nurse practitioner from New York State and have national certification as a nurse practitioner in an appropriate specialty area. At least five years of clinical nursing practice is required for appointment to either the undergraduate or graduate programs.
