Health Research Chair in Community Health and Aging
St. Thomas University

St. Thomas University invites applications for its newly established Health Research Chair in Community Health and Aging. This tenure-track/tenured appointment (at the rank of Assistant, Associate, or Full Professor) will begin on or before July 1st 2019.

St. Thomas University is an undergraduate, liberal arts institution with a full-time enrolment of 1,900 students, and offers Bachelorís degrees in Arts, Applied Arts, Education, and Social Work.

This tenure-track/tenured position will be housed in the Department of Gerontology. The first five years of this position will be funded through the New Brunswick Health Research Foundationís (NBHRF) Research Chair program with matching funds from The McCain Foundation. During this period, the successful candidate will benefit from a substantially-reduced teaching load, and will have access to a generous fund to support their program of research.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate for the Research Chair will have:

  • a strengths-based vision of aging focusing on the resilience and citizenship of older adults;
  • a commitment to fostering healthy, age-friendly communities, re-framing societyís perception of an aging population (from problem to asset), encouraging communities to value the social contributions of older adults, and promoting opportunities for inter-generational engagement;
  • a Ph.D. in Gerontology or a related field;
  • a strong track-record of research and publication;
  • a strong record of, and commitment to, undergraduate teaching.
