Job Description/Responsibilities

Southern Illinois University Edwardsville, Library and Information Services invites applications from dynamic, proactive, and service-oriented candidates for the position of Catalog & Cataloging Consultant Librarian.

This is a temporary position and is available immediately. The appointment will last for a period of twelve months.

Reporting to the Interim Dean of Library and Information Services (LIS), the Catalog & Cataloging Consultant Librarian, in collaboration with the Metadata Librarian and the Acting Director of Technical Services, will perform high level cataloging; develop recommendations for workflows; and provide training and support to paraprofessional cataloging staff.

The Catalog & Cataloging Consultant Librarian also serves as part of a team providing research and reference services.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assesses cataloging workflows and procedures in collaboration with Technical Services librarians, recommending changes or workflow reorganization.
  • Performs original and complex adaptive cataloging of print and non-print resources including electronic resources, according to national standards. Assists in ensuring that current holdings are accurately represented in the catalog.
  • Researches and assists in implementing cataloging rule changes and MARC record policy changes into existing workflows and procedures.
  • Communicates changes to all catalogers and participates in staff training.
  • Participates in reference services
All LIS faculty and staff are responsible for working collaboratively to achieve University and LIS goals and objectives.

Terms of Appointment
Full-time, 12-month term beginning Spring 2018.

Salary
Competitive and determined by evaluating qualifications. Salary is dependent upon experience and credentials. Excellent benefits program.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications

  • Master’s in Library Science or equivalent degree from an American Library Association accredited library or information school.
  • Bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university
  • Experience with cataloging in an academic environment with an integrated library system.
  • Proven ability utilizing software for data organization and analysis (e.g., Excel, Access).
  • Demonstrated fluent written and oral communication skills in English

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with OCLC and Exlibris Voyager
  • Working knowledge of serials and music cataloging, as well as rare materials description.
  • Ability to successfully initiate, track, and manage projects
