Job Description

The IT Technician position provides the evening support for the Information Technology Services (ITS) department at the La Plata Campus. The selected candidate would assist the Helpdesk Manager and guide the student technicians providing end-user technical support for microcomputers, associated peripherals, network components and software (operating systems and applications).  The position also provides Tier 1 & 2 Helpdesk support as well as classroom and special event support.

This position is 30 hours per week, Monday - Thursday, 2:45 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. and Saturday 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Work schedule may vary and flexibility is required.

  • At various times it may be required to adjust the work schedule to include hours that typically would be covered by person’s working the morning shift. Would you be available to do so?
  • It is our anticipation that the position will transition to a 40 hour per week work schedule. Will you be able to cover the additional hours when that transition occurs?

 

College of Southern Maryland conducts background checks in order to ensure the safety and well-being of the college's staff and students. The final candidate for this position will be subject to the following background checks: Criminal History Check and Motor Vehicle Record Check.

Job Requirements

Required Skills

  • Associate’s Degree or equivalent trade school training in an IT technology related field and/or one year experience in an educational computer support environment and one Industry certification in (A+, Net +, Novell CNA/CNE, Microsoft MSP/MCSE or equivalent).
  • Working knowledge of desktop computer operating systems including Windows XP, Win 7 & 10.
  • Ability to maintain, troubleshoot and repair desktop PCs and peripherals.  A+ or equivalent certification highly desired.
  • Work experience and proficiency with Microsoft Office, Novell GroupWise, Novell Application Launcher, I.E., Firefox, Chrome or other Internet browser is desired.
  • Excellent communications (written and oral), customer service, and problem solving skills. 
  • Ability to adapt quickly to rapidly changing technology.
  • Ability to translate technical terms for non-technical persons.
  • Experience working in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently with little or no direct supervision.
  • Must maintain insurability for vehicle use under the college’s liability insurance coverage.
