ADVANCED ASSISTANT/ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR
UNIVERSITY OF NEVADA, RENO

The University of Nevada, Reno invites applications for a tenure-track position in Communication Studies at the rank of advanced Assistant Professor or Associate Professor. The department seeks candidates whose research and teaching specializes in Relational Dynamics. Within this area, we are seeking candidates to fulfill our current instructional needs in the specializations of interpersonal, organizational, small group, facilitation/deliberation, or conflict/peace studies. Successful candidates will also help develop and enhance the recently reactivated MA program, and have a strong orientation towards social justice or community engaged scholarship.

Communication Studies at UNR is a member of The School of Social Research and Justice Studies (SSRJS) within the College of Liberal Arts. Other units in the School include the Grant Sawyer Center for Justice Studies, the Department of Sociology, and the Department of Criminal Justice (http://www.unr.edu/ssrjs/). Faculty in Communication Studies have also developed interdisciplinary research and teaching partnerships with the SSRJS departments, with the Interdisciplinary Social Psychology PhD Program (http://www.unr.edu/social-psychology), and with the Gender, Race, and Identity Program (http://unr.edu/cla/gri). The Department is also active in the Composition and Communication in the Disciplines initiative, which seeks to provide students with intensive communication and writing experience in their discipline of study. Our growing department also houses our top-ranked and award-winning National Parliamentary Debate Association team. The department also has an active Lambda Pi Eta Chapter, and collaborates with the surrounding community through service-learning and outreach programs.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Applicants should hold a PhD in communication studies or closely related field. The candidate must have a record indicating a strong potential of professional and academic leadership, and a distinguished reputation in research.

Preferred candidates will have already obtained the rank of Associate Professor, but we will consider strong Assistant professor candidates.

Preferred Qualifications:

Candidates who specialize in interpersonal, organizational, small group, facilitation/deliberation, or conflict/peace studies preferred. Candidates with service learning, community engagement or social justice orientations are preferred. Previous experience with graduate programs also a plus. All methodological orientations are welcomed.
