Clark University

Clark University’s Information Technology services seeks to fill the position of Communications Technician. Reporting to the Manager Network Operations, the Communications Technician will maintain the University’s communication infrastructure to ensure reliable and timely service to the Clark community.

Duties and Responsibilities

Included in a range of responsibilities, the Communications Technician will establish and maintain communication networks by installing, terminating, testing, and/or splicing cables including but not limited to twisted pair, fiber optic, and coaxial cable; installing telecommunications equipment; establishing connections; programming features all following industry standards. In addition, the Communication Technician will coordinate and manage installation of services with contractors when applicable; and will provide technical and end user support in the add/move/change of telecommunication services as well as other duties as assigned.
 

Job Requirements

Qualifications

The successful candidate will have minimum of three years’ experience working with physical communications infrastructure.

Candidate is expected to have the ability to work independently and as part of a team; the ability to set priorities and work concurrently on multiple tasks and projects; the ability to communicate progress/problems to appropriate personnel effectively and the ability to work nights and weekends on an as-needed basis is required (e.g., respond to system emergencies, implement off-hour changes). Usual and customary methods of performing the job's functions require the following physical demands: lifting, carrying, pushing, and/or pulling; frequent stooping, kneeling, crouching, and/or crawling.

Technical qualifications include a good experience in terminating and troubleshooting twisted pair, single/multimode fiber optic cable, and coaxial cable in support of traditional telecom, video and Ethernet applications, in addition to excellent documentation skills and experience with Word and Excel. A solid knowledge of telecommunications technologies including hardware and software; experience supporting an Avaya CS1000 is preferred.

The successful candidate will have the desire to learn new telecommunication technologies and adapt to a changing telecom technical landscape.
 


Information and Application Process Instructions

This is a project based job for 3.5- 4 years, full-time, 40+ hours per week, 12 month with excellent benefits, which include employee and family tuition benefits, 4 weeks’ vacation, generous retirement plan, free use of campus fitness center and many more.  After the project is completed this position will be half-time job, 20 hours per week, 12 month.
