The University of Missouri-Kansas City School of Biological Sciences is currently recruiting a Postdoctoral Fellow in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. Applications are invited from candidates with a PhD in Biology, Bioinformatics, Biostatistics, or a related field with experience in database creation and statistical analysis for biological systems. The Fellow will be provided with strong mentorship from a faculty mentor in the Fellow's department and a mentor from the School of Graduate Studies. UMKC is an urban serving, public, research university committed to serving the needs of Kansas City and the underserved communities in the region. As an institution with a commitment to diversity and social justice, UMKC is very cognizant of the dearth of underrepresented minorities in the STEM Faculty pipeline. As a result, we have organized institutional funding for this Fellowship to help meet the broad needs of our community. The goal of this Postdoctoral Fellowship is to support the early development of scholars who are from historically underrepresented groups.
Fellows who take advantage of this opportunity will be mentored in all aspects of faculty responsibilities, including research activities, teaching and advising to address the needs of underrepresented minorities in STEM courses and in research, and experiencing some service commitments to prepare for a faculty position. The Fellow will have the opportunity to develop and sharpen their research skills, learn and gain experience in classroom teaching, and learn the nuances of being a faculty member including tenure and promotion strategies associated with a faculty position. This position will involve work on the 1Data project, a One Health initiative with Kansas State University-Olathe and Kansas State University, affording the Fellow opportunity to develop a comprehensive professional and research network in the region.
The intent of this program is to develop the Fellow into a competitive candidate for faculty positions through a vigorous mentoring program. As part of the Fellowship experience, the Fellow will complete UMKC's graduate certificate program in College Teaching and Career Readiness to develop skills as an excellent teacher and well-rounded faculty colleague. The goal of the two-year Fellowship is to enhance the competitiveness of acquiring a tenure-track faculty position and to succeed in achieving distinction within the subject matter that culminates in successful tenure and promotion through the ranks eventually up to Full Professor.
UMKC is an Equal Opportunity/Access/Affirmative Action/Pro Disabled and Veteran Employer that is fully committed to achieving a diverse faculty and staff.
