Less than an hour from the Sierra Nevada Mountains, the City of Fresno offers easy access to the Kings Canyon, Sequoia and Yosemite National Parks. Seven nearby lakes offer sailing, fishing, boating, water skiing, or just plain relaxing. Art enthusiasts can enjoy ten theater groups, an opera association, a philharmonic orchestra, eight museums, and numerous galleries. Baseball fans can see Fresno�s Triple-A baseball club, the Fresno Grizzlies, play in their brand-new stadium, which is part of an ambitious downtown revitalization.


State Center Community College District was formed in 1964 when it assumed control of Fresno City College and Reedley College. The District serves approximately one million people and 17 unified and high school districts in more than 5,500 square miles of urban and rural territory which includes most of Fresno and Madera Counties, and portions of Kings and Tulare Counties. The District is governed by a seven member Board of Trustees, who are elected at-large and represent six trustee areas. Total district enrollment for the Spring Semester 2006 was approximately 34,700 students (estimated annual FTE was over 26,000). The total operating budget for the district in 2006/2007 is over $125 million.


Fresno City College, established in 1910 as the first community college in the State of California, enrolls 22,700 students and offers more than 100 Associate of Arts or Science Degree programs including transfer majors for students planning to attend four year colleges or universities and 60 Certificates of Achievement in vocational/occupational areas.


Reedley College, established in 1926, is located in Reedley (approximately 25 miles southeast of Fresno) and enrolls approximately 5,500 students in a variety of courses and programs, including agriculture, aeronautics, dental assisting, forestry and natural resources, and ornamental horticulture as well as academic courses in the arts and sciences.



The State Center Community College District operates four educational centers in the northern part of the district, which enroll a combined total of 6,500 students. The North Centers offer programs in general education for transfer and two-year degrees, occupational education and developmental education.
