Organization Profile

University of South Florida

The USF School of Public Affairs

The mission of USF’s School of Public Affairs is to deliver scholarly research and professional graduate degree and certificate programs—including our MPA Program—to meet the needs of 21st Century governments and the communities they serve. To that end, the School, along with and through its John Scott Dailey Florida Institute of Government, has developed strong working relationships with local, state, federal, and non-profit leaders and organizations—not only in our region and our state but nationally and internationally as well—and that network offers the public administration scholar an ideal laboratory for research. The School also has new leadership (its recently appointed Director is a Fellow of National Academy of Public Administration and a decorated public administrator, while the head of its MPA Program is a recently returned Fulbright Scholar, one of the School’s three in 2017)—and together with the School’s expanding faculty, they are committed to building a School of Public Affairs—and an MPA Program—equal to the stature and standing of USF.

In that regard, the University of South Florida is a high-impact, global research university dedicated to student success; according to the National Science Foundation, it is among the Top 25 public research institutions nationwide, based on total research expenditures. With an annual budget of $1.6 billion and an annual economic impact of $4.4 billion, the USF system offers over 240 separate degree programs at the undergraduate, graduate, specialist and doctoral levels, including the doctor of medicine. USF serves more than 48,000 students, and with over 1500 faculty engaged in just about every kind of research imaginable, the University offers a rich learning environment for the scholar. USF is a member of the American Athletic conference.  For its part, the School of Public Affairs takes full advantage of that richness by leveraging USF’s leadership in such areas as data science, human security, and sustainability to provide our faculty and students a variety of cutting-edge specializations, including a comparative track for those with an interest in international community and public service.
