One-Year Term Instructors, Public Communication Division

The School of Communication at American University invites applications for two full-time, one-year term positions beginning Sep. 1, 2017. Rank will be determined on the basis of experience.
These are nine-month teaching positions based in the Public Communication Division.
Each position has a 3-3 course load, which may include undergraduate and graduate professional courses offered during the week, in the evenings, on weekends, and online.
Depending on background and qualifications, the position also might entail teaching media studies and general education classes.
All faculty are expected to hold office hours and participate in School and University activities and service.
Strategic communication is at the heart of our economy, society, and politics. It’s a field built on ideas and images, persuasion and information, strategy and tactics, and grounded in theory and research.
We are looking for instructors who have a strong background in teaching one or more of the following areas: communication theory, strategic communication writing, qualitative and quantitative research methods, principles of strategic communication, strategic communication advertising and public relations.
A proven record of professional experience in at least one of the following is desired: public relations, strategic communication, public opinion or audience research, public affairs, corporate communications, advertising, social media and/or social marketing.
A master’s degree is required and previous college-level teaching experience is highly preferred; candidates with experience teaching online courses are especially encouraged to apply.
These positions have a 3-3 course teaching load for each semester, and may include undergraduate and graduate courses offered during the week, in the evening, on weekends, or online.
The successful candidates should be able to teach a wide range of courses including those focused on research and theory.
