Description/Job Summary

An Associate Dean is responsible for:

  1. Provides departmental leadership and support for teaching excellence and student success by promoting broad-based input, pursuing college-wide collaborations, and utilizing creative and innovative methods to solve problems.
  2. Provides leadership in developing, evaluating, and maintaining curricula and programs that respond to community needs, prepare students for success and that meet the stated requirements of COMAR, Middle States, and where appropriate, other accrediting bodies.
  3. Be knowledgeable of national research, trends, issues and initiatives impacting the discipline/programs within the department and teaching and learning. 
  4. Develops departmental plans and budgets with input from faculty and staff; facilitates the development of programs, projects and initiatives in support of the College’s Strategic Plan, Academic Master Plan and other college interests.
  5. Develops a schedule of classes in consultation with the Dean and Vice President for Academic Affairs that is responsive to student and college needs.  Completes other tasks as assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Master’s Degree in any discipline taught within the Department (Addiction Counseling; Allied Human Services; Psychology; Sociology/Anthropology; Philosophy; History; Political Science; Early Childhood Education; Teacher Education; Special Education; Para Legal Assistant; Criminal Justice)
  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience as a chair or associate dean of an academic department in higher education in a discipline or related discipline taught within the department 

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in any discipline taught within the Department (Addiction Counseling; Allied Human Services; Psychology; Sociology/Anthropology; Philosophy; History; Political Science; Early Childhood Education; Teacher Education; Special Education; Para Legal Assistant; Criminal Justice)
  • 5 to 10 years’ experience preferred; 
  • Experience in an institution of Higher Education;
  • Experience with budgeting;
  • Experience in outcomes assessment;
  • Experience with faculty evaluation.
