Post-doctoral Appointments in Technology and Learning
The University of Pittsburgh seeks exceptional candidates for 2-year post-doctoral appointments jointly in the Learning Research and Development Center (LRDC) and the University Center for Teaching and Learning. The appointments combine LRDCís mission in learning research and development with the Teaching Centerís mission in support of the Universityís teaching, including through the use of technology.
The persons filling these positions will work with LRDC faculty and Teaching Center staff on cutting-edge research on college student learning in both technology-enhanced and traditional classrooms, as well as on-line instruction. A wide range of projects is possible: instructional design and innovation, learning analytics, educational data mining, automatic essay scoring, educational gaming, the social context of web-based learning are examples among many possibilities.
The University Center for Teaching and Learning (http://www.teaching.pitt.edu) provides support for teaching, educational technology, and assessment. It seeks innovative ways to improve instruction and assists efforts of instructors to infuse technology into their classroom teaching. It also manages large amounts of data from its online and blended courses, MOOCs, learning management system, and teaching observations. In collaboration with LRDC and other University units, the Center seeks to apply learning science research to improvements in instruction.
LRDC (http://www.lrdc.pitt.edu) is an international leader in interdisciplinary research and development in learning and education. It draws faculty from psychology, education, and computing and information sciences to study learning in its cognitive, neural, social, and organizational aspects. LRDC has expanding research on college student learning.
Candidates should have expertise related to learning and education and experience in the use of technology in education.
Backgrounds in instructional design, cognitive psychology, discipline-based science education research, data mining, educational technology, and AI, among others, are appropriate.
