Job Summary:

The University of San Francisco's Gleeson Library | Geschke Learning Resource Center seeks a creative, innovative, engaged, and enthusiastic person for the position of Instruction Coordinator / Assessment Librarian.

The Instruction Coordinator / Assessment Librarian, as part of an instruction team, will focus heavily on information literacy instruction, and will lead the department's efforts to develop learning outcomes and assessment practices related to instruction.

Background:
The Reference & Research Services department is building a new instruction team for which this position will act as coordinator. The team will consist of three instruction librarians (focusing respectively on assessment, first year experience, and online learning) and one library assistant.

The Library more broadly will be engaging in strategic planning in the upcoming year, and the instruction program will be included in the planning process as the library evolves with the higher education landscape.

Job Responsibilities:

INSTRUCTION (55%)

Delivers effective and innovative instruction sessions; and provides alternate learning opportunities such as LibGuides, train-the-trainer sessions, online tutorials, or other just-in-time methods.

Coordinates the library’s instructional relationship with the Rhetoric and Language department and the provision of information literacy classes, and teaches one third or more of these classes as part of the instruction team.

Works closely with the Instruction Library Assistant in his role to oversee logistical aspects of providing face-to-face instruction on campus, including responses to the requestor, scheduling other library staff for instruction, classroom conditions, and other factors as needed.

Serves as the subject liaison for Rhetoric and Language.

Cultivates and sustains collaborative relationships with students, staff, and faculty in support of campus teaching and learning.

ASSESSMENT (30%)

Works to systematically assess student information literacy needs, and library instructional goals.

Leads in developing and maintaining library learning outcomes and information literacy competencies based on a combination of ACRL’s information literacy Standards and Framework.

Articulates, coordinates, evaluates, assesses and promotes the library’s instruction program and strategy, including face-to-face instruction, online, and hybrid delivery models.

Develops plans for ongoing improvement based on program evaluations and assessment.

Collaborates with other librarians as needed to support assessment of instruction.

REFERENCE (15%)

Provides reference assistance in person and online to the University communities.

Some evening and weekend hours are required.

Librarians at the University of San Francisco are expected and encouraged to participate in local and national professional organizations; engage in service to the USF community; serve on library and university committees; engage in research, professional development, and other activities related to tenure and promotion; and will have other duties assigned.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

An enthusiasm for teaching, and experience teaching library research/information literacy classes or similar classes; one year of library experience (or the equivalent), preferably in an academic library; ALA accredited MLIS or MLS degree (or the equivalent); highly service-oriented, and able to collaborate positively with faculty, colleagues, and administrators. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Commitment to advancing the university’s mission and core values.

Demonstrated familiarity with ACRL information literacy standards and framework; demonstrated understanding and practice of learning outcomes assessment, including the ability to design assessment instruments, analyze results, and implement evidence-based changes.
