WHFC Radio Community Outreach and Programming Specialist

WHFC takes pride in producing and presenting programs that reflect community preferences and standards, rather than dictate them. The program alternatives presented allow WHFC to serve a broad cross section of listeners in Harford County, plus significant portions of Baltimore, Cecil, Kent and Queen Anne's counties in Maryland, and York and Lancaster counties in Pennsylvania.
The Community Outreach and Programming Specialist supports radio station operations, focusing on contemporary programming, while improving involvement in by HCC students and community members. Responsibilities include developing, producing, and hosting "Fresh Tracks,' a new local music and interview hour that will become the centerpiece of WHFC programming and will involve a team of student production assistants; act as liaison with the College's Mass Communications program to recruit and train student interns and volunteers; participate in recruiting and training community volunteers; liaison with music labels, independent artists and promoters; represent WHFC at community events and act as the station's social media liaison; plan, coordinate, and participate in station fund raising activities and events; and perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor.
An associate's degree or the equivalent and one to three years of radio station operations experience is required. Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to, proficiency with radio automation and editing software; experience with community outreach and event hosting; demonstrated training and team-building skills; knowledge of acoustic and adult contemporary music; strong radio production and engineering skills; working knowledge of FCC rules and regulations related to public radio; and knowledge of the duties of a radio station operations manager and station coordinator.
Working conditions may include occasional physical effort and exposure to the elements for outside work.
