Compensation and Appointment:

  • $47,000 + (DOE)

  • Twelve (12) month, non-tenure track, special appointment with University of North Dakota (UND) School of Medicine and Health Sciences (SMHS), Department of Biomedical Sciences.

Job Summary and Responsibilities:

Study the role of epigenetic factors in normal development and carcinogenesis. The position is available immediately and is planned for at least three years, with a possibility of renewal. The successful candidate is expected to apply biochemical and molecular biology techniques (molecular cloning, Western blot, qRT-PCR, ChIP, ChIP-seq, protein purification, protein complexes reconstitution in vitro) and microscopy to conduct the research on epigenetic regulation of development and cancer. The primary research focus of Dr. Tulin’s lab is on fundamentals of chromatin regulation and RNA fate during the normal development and in carcinogenesis, as well as on translating the findings of fundamental biology for clinical applications in oncology. Projects in Dr. Tulin’s lab cover the molecular mechanisms of chromatin remodeling and regulation of gene expression and employ in vitro assays as well as mouse model.

Postdoctoral associate will be involved in designing and performing experiments, establishing recombinant primary cancer cell cultures and work with animal models (PDX) of human cancer, studying epigenetic mechanisms of tumor initiation and progression.

Successful candidates are expected to carry out experimental sequences, analyze obtained data, present their data at national and international meetings, prepare the results of their research for publication in top-tier peer-reviewed journals, and seek independent funding. They are also expected to interact with faculty, staff, and students within a larger group (approximately 20 laboratories) of researchers at UND studying the Epigenomics of Development and Disease.

The candidate will perform laboratory-based research in this area including:

  • The design, implementation, analysis, and interpretation of laboratory experiments.
  • Assist in grant and manuscript preparation.
  • Help train graduate and undergraduate students.
  • Participate in all additional facets of the research laboratory.

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

  • Ph.D. in molecular biology, molecular genetics, biochemistry, or a related field.
  • 0 to 3 years of postdoctoral research experience.

Preferred Requirements:

  • Experience in cancer biology, genetics, confocal microscopy, protein purification, live-cell imaging, immunoblotting, cloning, real-time PCR and flow cytometry analysis and genomic/proteomics.
