ACADEMIC ADVISOR - JOB #2599
The Academic Advisor position is a full-time professional position. The successful candidate will provide academic advising and career planning services to students including assessing student needs, goals, interests, and prior academic experiences to guide students in the development and implementation of a successful academic plan. The Academic Advisor will participate in recruitment and retention efforts, host orientation, advising, and registration sessions, and process dual enrollment. Additionally, the Academic Advisor must demonstrate an understanding of the College’s academic policies and the requirements of degree and certificate programs to facilitate student success; work as a team member; exhibit superior interpersonal and problem-solving skills; be sensitive of, and adhere to, strict confidentiality and other ethical standards; and demonstrate the ability to be flexible in a changing, fast-paced environment. Other duties include, but are not limited to, conducting workshops and presentations, assisting with special projects such as college fairs, career day, college or university representative visits, and participating in professional development activities. The position requires the availability to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends during registration periods. This position reports to the Assistant Dean, Student Services.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS: Graduation from an accredited institution with a master’s degree and two years academic advising experience in a college or university setting.
SALARY RANGE: $30,000.00 - $34,000.00 (Depending on the qualifications, the salary is negotiable. However, the College does not generally hire at the top of the range.)
