The Payroll Analyst is responsible for accurate and timely payroll disbursements, regulatory compliance and reporting, assisting with maintenance and updating of internal control procedures; accounting treatment of complex transactions, and assisting with financial audits.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Payroll and accounts payable disbursement processing and records:
Calculating, processing, reconciliation and reporting payments of all payroll disbursements. Verify, reconcile and maintain associated control reports. Assist in the annual fiscal and year-end financial close out process.
Consultation and analysis: Provide excellent customer service to customers to resolve disbursement related questions/concerns, recommend appropriate resolutions based on college policy and/or regulatory guidelines and assist with conducting training as needed.
Reconciliation and Accounting: Assist with the timely reconciliation and analysis of disbursement related accounts including preparation of journal entries. Answer financial and accounting questions related to disbursement accounts by researching and interpreting data.
Compliance and Reporting: Assist with payroll reporting, payment, and regulatory compliance associated with Maryland State Retirement (MSRA), Maryland Higher Education Commission (MHEC) and federal and state tax reporting, including but not limited to payroll related federal and state tax, IRS 1099 and Forms W2. Assist with external audits, including state, local and federal audits.
Maintenance of disbursement financial systems and controls: Assist with researching, evaluating, and making recommendations for monitoring and maintaining strong internal control systems ensuring compliance with state, county, and federal regulations; College policy as well as ensuring the safeguarding of college assets.
Other duties as assigned.
Minimum of two (2) years' relevant experience in payroll or accounting.
Bachelor's degree or higher in Business, Accounting or related field
Intermediate knowledge of all facets of payroll financial control principles, procedures, applicable regulations and laws.
Demonstrated ability to research, interpret and apply new legislation and regulations.
Ability to identify, analyze and resolve complex, multifaceted problems.
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite software.
Excellent Customer service skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Knowledge of general accounting principles and practices.
Strong time management skills; the ability to work under pressure; strong analytical and problem solving skills; attention to details and deadlines.
Demonstrates the ability to maintain confidentiality.
CPP (Certified Payroll Professional), FPC (Fundamentals of Payroll Certification) or CPA (Certified Public Accountant)
Hours Per Week: 40
Work Schedule: 8:30-4:30
