Harford Community College has served as an anchor institution in Harford County since its inception in 1957. We are a mid-sized, comprehensive college committed to serving our community through high caliber educational offerings and cultural events.

Our beautiful, 352-acre campus is located in the heart of vibrant Harford County, Maryland, and conveniently located near Baltimore, MD; Philadelphia, PA; Washington, DC; and Wilmington, DE. We offer more than 70 affordable degree and certificate programs to nearly 2,000 full-time and 7,500 part-time students, as well as a wide variety of noncredit continuing education courses to nearly 11,000 students per year.

The Communications Specialist performs communication, research, and administrative duties for the Office of the President and Executive Leadership Team. Responsibilities include conducting research and creating executive summaries on topics as assigned; developing talking points and writing speeches for the President and the Executive Leadership Team; assisting the President in developing campus and community communications; proofreading materials for meetings, committees and various communications; maintaining web pages for the Office of the President, the Board of Trustees, and other pages as assigned; assisting with duties for special events; providing high-level administrative support for the Office of the President; and performing other duties as assigned. The Communications Specialist for the Office of the President works closely with the College's Office of Communications.

This is an exempt, professional staff position reporting to the Senior Executive Assistant to the President.

Job Requirements

A bachelor's degree and one to three years of related experience are required; master's degree preferred. Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to, experience and skills in writing, editing, and proofreading; experience preparing presentation materials with PowerPoint, Prezi, and other programs; experience updating web pages; experience conducting research, drawing conclusions and writing briefs; ability to creating infographics; excellent communication skills; and demonstrated ability to maintain confidentiality.

Higher education experience is highly desirable, including demonstrated commitment to the mission/vision/values of an institution and good college citizenship.
