Job Description

Otis College of Art and Design is currently accepting applications for a full-time Creative Director. The Creative Director is responsible for conceptualization and design of the College's communication and marketing materials and has creative authority and responsibility for these materials, ensuring the highest standard for all creative and print production outputs. The Creative Director works closely with key members of the Admissions, Extension, and Summer Programs offices and other departments on external materials, as well as sets guidelines and provides assistance for design guidelines throughout the Otis community. The Creative Director establishes the stylistic direction for all print and electronic materials and helps to conceptualize website branding and style direction with the Web Team. The Creative Director will work with the Director of User Experience and Digital Design to oversee the Otis Design Lab, a student-centered design incubator. The Creative Director reports to the Vice President of Communications and Marketing.

Responsibilities:

Determines and communicates art direction for all projects to designers, animators, web designers, videographers, photographers, illustrators, prepress technicians, and printers, as well as student workers.

Determines needs, functions, production schedules, budgets, and target audiences for communications and marketing materials.

Designs and oversees production of recruitment materials, including videos, web subsites; posters; collateral materials; identity materials; exhibition materials and catalogues; signage, keynote/powerpoint presentations; web-related content; and on occasion, academic publishing projects.

Works closely with the VP of Communications and Marketing, outside web designers, academic program directors, special programs/gallery director, student affairs, development, extension, and admissions offices to collect visual and written materials, and direct uploading to the website.

Determines most effective use of resources for printing through research and communication with printers and prepress consultants, obtains estimates and coordinates schedules. Supervises printing on major jobs.

Supervises Graphic Designer and Production Assistant, who will serve as lead on various projects: generating comps, prepress work, and preparing final files, as directed.

Job Requirements

This is a full-time exempt position for an entrepreneurial-minded designer with 7-10 years of experience in graphic design, web design, and advertising or a closely related field and 4+ years in a creative leadership role. Bachelor's degree or equivalent education or experience required. Requires strong organizational skills, attention to detail, ability to multitask and adapt to new challenges quickly. Strong knowledge of print production required. Strong client service and communication skills, excellent verbal and written skills also required. Must be dependable, diligent, and self-starter with minimum supervision. High level of knowledge of Adobe Creative Suite. The ideal person should have a desire to work in a team-oriented environment that services the needs and a diverse population and have the ability to interface effectively with all constituents.
