The Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science invites applications, from qualified individuals, for a tenure-track or tenured position in Health Physics and Radiation Science at the Assistant Professor level. This position is subject to budgetary approval, and would start on July 1, 2018.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will be expected to conduct active and innovative research programs and to teach at the undergraduate and graduate levels. In keeping with a technology-enhanced learning environment utilizing laptop computers and wireless technology, UOIT seeks faculty who strive to explore and develop new pedagogies.

Applicants must have a PhD in Physics or a related discipline along with relevant postdoctoral experience and be eligible for prompt appointment to the School of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies.

The successful candidate will be expected to develop a strong, externally funded research program, foster research linkages within and beyond UOIT, show excellence in the teaching of radiation physics, health physics and radiation environmental biophysics at both undergraduate and graduate levels, and play an active role in widely promoting UOIT’s endeavors in Health Physics and Environmental Safety research and education.

It is expected that the successful candidate will hold distinction among their peer group, be a recognized contributor to their field of research and hold a significant publication and training record in order to be eligible to hold an NSERC Associate Industrial Research Chair.

In addition, candidates should possess excellent English language skills demonstrating an ability to ensure strong, two-way communications on an ongoing basis that contribute to collaborative/collegial relationships with faculty, staff, students, and the community at large.

Previous experience with professional activities in computational engineering and sciences, systems engineering with relevance in energy, and data analytics – numerical methods would be considered an asset but is not a requirement for the position.

Commensurate with the research objectives of the NSERC/UNENE Industrial Research Chairs in Health Physics and Environmental Safety held by UOIT we seek a candidate with expertise in radiation detection and measurement, dosimetry and computational health physics. UOIT values interdisciplinary research and collaboration with other academic departments at UOIT and places strong emphasis on interaction with the regional nuclear industry. The Faculty of Energy Systems and Nuclear Science has a unique program in Canada for Nuclear Engineering and is also home to a specialized program in Health physics and Radiation Science. UOIT places great importance on high quality innovative teaching.

The successful candidate will be expected to follow a 40% Research, 40% Teaching and 20% Service workload each year.

This position falls within the bargaining unit represented by the UOIT Faculty Association and will be subject to the terms and conditions of the collective agreement between the University and the UOIT Faculty Association. The collective agreement may be found on the Human Resources section of our website. Starting salary will be commensurate with experience and annual salary increases are administered as per the terms outlined in the tenured and tenure track collective agreement.
