Philosophy and Religion Faculty - Tenure-track
Harford Community College
This is a 10-month, tenure-track faculty position scheduled to begin August 2018. This person will join a team of 30 dynamic, innovative and eager faculty team members engaged in making a difference in the lives of students.
The faculty member will teach a variety of courses in philosophy and religion, exploring classic and traditional content such as the work of Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, and Kant, as well as world religions. Other responsibilities include serving as lead for adjunct faculty, participating in course development and outcomes assessments, and serving on College committees.
A master's degree in philosophy or a closely-related field, a demonstrated minimum of 18 graduate credit hours in philosophy, and a minimum of two years or equivalent full-time teaching experience, preferably at a community college, are required. A doctorate is preferred.
Applicants must have experience developing instructional material; demonstrated ability to teach a range of philosophy and religion courses; demonstrated understanding of and experience in assessment of student learning; experience using evidence-based pedagogies in the teaching of philosophy and/or religion to continually improve student learning; and demonstrated competency with current technology and learning management systems. Experience in online teaching is preferred.
The ability to interact with students and potential students outside the classroom environment in discipline-related activities, effective communication skills, and a well-articulated understanding of the role of community colleges and their students are required.
Candidates will be asked to validate teaching experience. A teaching demonstration will be part of the interview process.
Salary will be commensurate with education, licensure, and education.
