Multiple Visiting positions in the Department of Economics
The Bates College Economics Department invites applications for multiple two- or three-year visiting positions, beginning on August 1, 2018. The positions include:
- One 3-year full-time position
- One 2-year full-time position
- One 2-year 80 percent (4 courses/year) position
The successful candidates must combine teaching and research in their field(s) of specialization with a willingness to teach core economics courses, including principles or intermediate courses in microeconomics or macroeconomics. The course load will be four or five courses per academic year, with compensation commensurate with the teaching load. All Ph.D. degree requirements must be completed by the date of appointment.
Review of applications will begin immediately and continue until the positions are filled. To be seriously considered, candidates should substantively discuss in their application materials how they design their courses, develop an inclusive climate in the classroom, and in other ways support a broad range of social, cultural, and learning differences to ensure that all students thrive. The college’s mission statement celebrates “the transformative power of our differences.” Accordingly, we believe that campus diversity contributes to student learning, and we embrace our college’s aim to extend access to a Bates education to an ever wider range of students. Candidates who can add substantive diversity of thought and/or experience and who can contribute to supporting an increasingly diverse student body are encouraged to apply.
Please submit the following materials: cover letter, curriculum vitae, graduate transcripts, a research paper, statements on teaching and research, teaching evaluations, and three letters of reference (at least one of which must specifically address teaching performance and abilities).
Also, please describe your willingness and preparedness for teaching core courses, specifically whether in microeconomics or macroeconomics.
Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a background check.
