Job Description

The College of Southern Maryland is currently recruiting for a part-time Lab Assistant position at the La Plata campus. There is no health benefits associated with this position. The Lab Assistant supports all skills lab activities and simulated patient care learning experiences for the Health Sciences Division. The Lab Assistant collaborates with the Health Sciences Division Skills Lab Coordinator to ensure preparation of supplies and equipment based on faculty requests and course schedule. The Lab Assistant sets up, cleans, maintains, and inventories lab equipment, supplies and other materials needed to replicate healthcare setting. The person in this position operates Health Sciences Division human simulators and patient care manikins, and occasionally may act in the roles of a standardized participant. The ability to work independently with initiative, organization and attention to detail are important skills for this position.


The work schedule for this part-time permanent position is 10 hours per week with flexibility to work on Mondays and Tuesdays or Wednesdays and Thursdays (8:30 a.m. – 1:30 p.m.).  A flexible schedule is required based on courses’ needs. Effective 7/1/15, permanent employees who work less than 30 hours per week are no longer eligible for medical, dental or vision benefits.

Job Requirements

Required Skills
  • High school diploma or GED required
  • Certificate in health field preferred
  • 2 years’ experience in health field preferred
  • Knowledge of equipment and supplies used in health field preferred
  • Ability to work with diverse populations required
  • Ability to work as a team member required
  • Proficient oral and written communication skills
  • Proficient in use of technology: personal computer, Microsoft Office products, internet
