The Department of Electrical & Computer Engineering at the University of Wyoming (UW) invites applications for a tenure-track assistant professor. The position is in the area of power systems and includes a competitive start up package. Applications of signal processing, big data, machine and deep learning to power systems are of especial interest. The position entails developing an externally funded research program with peer-reviewed publication activities, teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, and mentoring MS and PhD students.
The college has over 90 faculty members and offers eight ABET-accredited degree programs. The department has 12 faculty members and an enrollment of 200 undergraduate and 35 graduate students. In the power area, there are extensive research collaboration opportunities within the department, UW’s Wind Energy Center, the Wyoming Supercomputing Center and UW’s School of Energy Resources. The department also has excellent connections with the DOE’s Pacific Northwest, Sandia, and Idaho National Laboratories. Wyoming is an energy rich state with outreach development and research opportunities throughout the state. UW is a thriving, land-grant research university with over 100 million dollars in research funding. It is the only state funded university in Wyoming and thus receives excellent support from the state, which is undergoing a sweeping Engineering Initiative to greatly enhance the College of Engineering and Applied Science. UW is located in Laramie, Wyoming, 130 miles northwest of Denver. Laramie is a picturesque and friendly town with reasonable cost of living and easy access to outdoor activities in the Rocky Mountain region.
