Position Summary:

The College’s School of Science and Technology seeks a full-time Assistant Professor (potentially leading to a tenure-track position) to teach for the Biology Department who is committed to the ideals of community college education and is eager to join an innovative, highly professional faculty. A proven ability to teach college-level General Biology and General Microbiology lecture and laboratory courses. Additionally, excellence in oral, written and interpersonal communication skills is expected. Teaching assignments are 15 faculty load hours per semester. In addition to instructional responsibilities, the faculty member will have a major role in curriculum development, laboratory development, assessment strategies, outcomes measurement, special events, and academic advising

Faculty members are expected to serve on department, school and college committees; advise students; engage in professional development activities; and participate in community and business partnerships, research and grant opportunities. Faculty will use technology and learning outcomes assessment to enhance classroom teaching and demonstrate commitment to innovation and teaching excellence. College teaching experience is required.

While faculty work of 30 faculty load hours an academic year will include primary responsibilities for teaching and assessing learning and for institutional service, advising, and professional development, the college seeks to break the frame that traditionally surrounds faculty assignments, especially since academic divisional needs vary. As such, faculty should expect to integrate with their primary responsibilities some combination of the following,

1. creating experiential learning opportunities and assessment techniques, (e.g., work-based and service learning; portfolio assessment, including developing and evaluating learning portfolios; etc.)

2. mentoring

- students from target groups

- new full-time faculty

- part-time faculty

3. designing, formatting and delivering curriculum for synchronous and asynchronous learning

4. training and consulting for workforce initiatives (e.g., for public and corporate partners, etc.)

5. developing and implementing community education and extended learning programs

6. partnering with colleagues to enhance services to students and the community

- recruiting and marketing

- advising with expanded responsibilities

- devising retention strategies and activities

7. strengthening relations and collaborative activities with K-12 and baccalaureate-granting colleagues

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

• Master’s or doctorate degree in an appropriate biological or microbiological specialty

• Teaching experience

Preferred Qualifications:

• Two-three years of experience in teaching Biology and Microbiology lecture

• Demonstrated ability to teach Biology and Microbiology laboratory sections

• Experience in assessment, curriculum development, and/or curriculum design

• Demonstrated experience in delivering instruction in non-traditional settings using various delivery modes

• Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office, Social Media and the Internet

• Ability to work flexible hours and locations, including some weekends and evenings as needed
