Job Description

Director of Social Work
University of Nevada, Reno

The University of Nevada, Reno School of Social Work seeks a Director, with the opportunity to become the Founding Dean for a dynamic and growing school. First accredited in 1971, the School of Social Work is the only program in Northern Nevada to offer Council on Social Work Education accredited BSW and MSW degrees. Serving over 700 undergraduate and graduate students, the School of Social Work ensures access to its degrees through a collaborative distance-education program with state community colleges and an online MSW program.

The Director will possess a collaborative leadership style and will serve as a strong advocate for the School’s missions to both its internal and external stakeholders. The Director provides leadership and administrative support for the School of Social Work faculty, staff, and students, manages the daily operations of the School, and represents the School both within the University and externally at local, state, regional, and national levels.

The successful candidate will serve as the next Director of the School and complete an organizational process currently underway that is intended to lead to a fully mature school led by the Director as the Founding Dean. This is a twelve-month position with the expectation of tenure upon hire. The School of Social Work is currently housed within the University’s Division of Health Sciences, but will be proposed to become an independent School led by a Dean with a target date of July 1, 2019.

The successful candidate will present a record of strategic and visionary leadership; a demonstrated ability in acquiring extramural funding; a compelling record of scholarly productivity; a commitment to fostering active and successful scholarship; skill in budgeting and fiscal management; the ability to form and maintain collaborative relationships; a history of University and community partnerships; a strong commitment to diversity; and an inspiring, collaborative and positive leadership style.
