The University of Manitoba Faculty of Social Work invites applications for a full-time Instructor II position (position # 24936) beginning 1 July 2018. This position normally has a two-year probationary period, leading to a continuing appointment. The Northern Social Work Program is a University of Manitoba ACCESS Program designed for mature undergraduate students who face significant social, academic and financial barriers (e.g. Indigenous peoples, newcomers to Canada, people facing economic and social challenges). The Program is located in Thompson, Manitoba, a city of 13,000 located 740 kilometres north of Winnipeg (www.thompson.ca). Residents of Thompson are signatories of Treaty Five and live in the traditional territory of the Nisichawayasihk Cree Nation.
The Faculty of Social Work is one of the largest social work programs in Canada, with a proud history of teaching, research and service spanning almost 75 years. The Faculty offers the Bachelor, Master, and PhD degrees in Social Work. We recently launched a ground-breaking MSW program based in Indigenous Knowledges. Our Faculty is actively engaged in research and academic publication on a wide variety of topics, and the University of Manitoba is part of the U15 group of research intensive Canadian universities. Our programs are fully accredited by the Canadian Association for Social Work Education. We are excited to be in a period of renewal of the Faculty and building for the future. Candidates for the position should have demonstrated ability or potential to contribute to the program through acting as Field Coordinator and teaching. Knowledge and experience in social work policy and practice related to Indigenous peoples, northern/rural social work, child welfare, social policy, criminal justice, disability, mental health, school social work, and social work with newcomers are especially desirable.
Candidates must have a social work degree from an accredited university and hold a Master’s degree in social work or a related discipline. Duties include coordination of the NSWP field education program, teaching in the B.S.W. Program, and research or service. This is a continuing position.
