California State University Channel Islands (CSUCI) seeks an experienced student affairs administrator to serve as Vice President for Student Affairs (VPSA), following the retirement of the Universityís founding officer in this position. The Vice President for Student Affairs reports to President Erika Beck and serves on the presidentís cabinet. Founded in 2002, CSUCI is located halfway between Los Angeles and Santa Barbara and is 10 minutes from the Pacific Ocean. CSUCI is the newest campus in the 23-campus California State University system, the largest public university system in the nation. CSUCI enrolls just over 7,000 students, and at its full capacity, the campus will serve 15,000 students. The next VPSA will help to lead this emerging institution as it continues to grow into a model 21st century institution for student-centered learning, engagement, and research. (www.csuci.edu).
The campus offers panoramic views of the Santa Monica Mountains and is surrounded by citrus groves and strawberry and raspberry fields. This setting contributes to the quality and enjoyment of being students, faculty, and staff at the University. The University continues to increase its residential capacity, and student success, diversity, and inclusion characterize the classroom and co-curricular life. CSUCI is a Hispanic-Serving Institution, and the current undergraduate student body is 50% Hispanic, 49% Pell recipients, and 59% first-generation college students. Over half of the undergraduates are transfers from community colleges. The University is deeply committed to serving and developing all of its students.
As the chief student affairs officer, the VPSA provides leadership and direction for the Division of Student Affairs. Among other responsibilities, the VPSA partners with Academic Affairs in creating a dynamic student experience that results in substantive increases in retention, educational achievement, and graduation rates; works to embed inclusive excellence into the fabric of the University experience; provides supervision to Student Affairs staff, programs, and initiatives; represents the Division at events on and off campus; facilitates a culture of assessment through the ongoing evaluation of programs, services, and initiatives; and assures organizational structure as well as annual and long-range budget preparation and forecasting to accomplish CSUCIís mission and goals. The successful candidate will have an earned doctoral degree from an accredited university; significant and progressively responsible managerial experience in student affairs; a deep knowledge of current trends; and demonstrated implementation of effective practices that result in increased rates of student engagement and retention, with a specific focus on first generation students.
