Faculty Position in Single-Cell Analysis/Synthetic Biology
The Department of Biomedical Engineering in the School and Engineering and Applied Science is pleased to invite applications for a tenure-track faculty position at Columbia University in the City of New York. Applications at the Assistant Professor level will be considered.
Candidates are sought in the broad areas of Single-Cell Analysis/Synthetic Biology. Candidates must have a Ph.D. or its professional equivalent in Biomedical Engineering, Systems Biology or related field by the start date of the appointment. Postdoctoral experience is preferred but not required. Applicants for this position must demonstrate the potential to do pioneering research and to teach effectively.
Pending final approval, this faculty appointment is a possible joint hire between Columbia’s School of Engineering and the Columbia University Medical Center. The successful candidate is expected to contribute to the advancement of the field of Single Cell Analysis/Synthetic Biology through developing an original and leading externally funded research program, and contribute to the educational missions of the Department of Biomedical Engineering and the Department of Systems Biology.
Columbia offers a rich environment for multidisciplinary research and encourages collaborations with academic departments and units across Columbia University. This position seeks candidates who would develop research cross-cutting the fields of single-cell analysis, systems biology, microbiome and synthetic biology. Specifically, the ideal candidate will strengthen ties between the Department of Systems Biology and the Department of Biomedical Engineering, building upon existing strengths in single-cell genomics, dynamic simulations of cellular networks, cancer evolution and heterogeneity, genomic engineering, bioimaging, cellular engineering and biomaterials, and regenerative medicine. The Department is especially interested in qualified candidates who can contribute, through their research, teaching, and/or service, to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
