Director for Network and Systems Administration
Harford Community College
The Director for Network and Systems Administration is responsible for the data and voice infrastructure, internet services, server management, data center management, wired and wireless infrastructure, printer management, and telecommunication servers of the College and its other branches or campuses. The position leads, directs, and manages a team of engineers and specialists responsible for constant, uninterrupted network operations.
Duties include, but are not limited to, identifying the technical specifications of the technology infrastructure related to the physical wired and wireless network, telecommunications, internet service, and other logical network service; identifying the server specifications and requirements of services running on the network, including virtualization; performing capacity planning for provisioning the short-term, medium-term, and long-term capacity requirements for technology; leading the team of engineers in configuring and deploying server operating systems; managing the domain infrastructure of the College; analyzing server and server service data and statistics to proactively address potential issues and reduce downtime; and communicating with the campus community any planned outage/upgrade and service disruption. Other duties include identifying and implementing network efficiency in all levels to improve performance and speed.
This is an exempt, professional staff position reporting to the Chief Information Officer.
A bachelor's degree in computer science, computer engineering, information systems, information management, management information systems, or a related information technology field is required. Equivalent technological training or work experience may be considered. Active Cisco or Microsoft certification is preferred. The position also requires five to seven years of progressive experience in IT, including supervising and scheduling projects.
Applicants will be evaluated on criteria including, but not limited to, experience hiring, training, and evaluating the work performance of engineers and specialists to support local and wide area network infrastructure; experience developing and implementing procedures and protocols for installing, administering, and providing support for systems infrastructure; experience with network security and disaster recovery procedures using industry best practices, including documentation, implementation, and communication; and extensive experience with budget and vendor management.
Other requirements include knowledge and troubleshooting skills in e-mail, file servers, and Active Directory domain administration, including DNS, Group Policy, DHCP, IIS, proxy, and anti-virus, and knowledge of Cloud platforms including Office 365 and Azure; knowledge of virtualization (Hyper-V, VMware) and server consolidation as well as SAN environments; experience managing domain infrastructure and a data center with at least 100 physical and virtual servers; and knowledge of network architecture and equipment, including Cisco routers and switches and application-based firewalls.
Physical requirements include the ability to lift and carry 10 lbs. frequently, and up to 20 lbs. occasionally, and significant walking and standing.
