Assistant Professor, Theoretical High Energy Nuclear Physics
Wayne State University

This appointment will begin as a cooperative fellowship with the RIKEN BNL Research Center (RBRC) at Brookhaven National Laboratory (BNL) and the Beam Energy Scan Theory (BEST) Topical Collaboration in Nuclear Theory for a period of up to five years. During this period, the fellow will spend about half of their time at WSU and the remaining time at the RBRC in BNL.

Candidate will maintain an active, externally funded research program, be committed to teaching at both undergraduate and graduate levels. Publish research results in peer-reviewed journals, supervise graduate, postdoctoral students and research associates.

Job Requirements

Candidates should have a strong background in QCD matter and relativistic heavy ion physics. We seek an individual who will be a leader in the LHC era and beyond.

A PhD. or equivalent degree is required and postdoctoral experience is important. Experience in high-performance computing and/or data science is preferred.

Our department (http://www.clas.wayne.edu/physics/) consists of 28 faculty members with active research programs in relativistic heavy ion physics (STAR, ALICE and theory), particle physics (CMS, Belle and theory), astrophysics, condensed matter and materials physics, biophysics, and atomic physics.

The appointment will start in August 2018 and include a competitive start-up package. This position is part of a new university wide initiative to enhance efforts in computational science and computationally intensive domain sciences.
