The University Writing Program in the College of Humanities and Fine Arts at the University of Massachusetts Amherst (http://www.umass.edu/writingprogram/) invites applications for the Assistant Director at the rank of Lecturer.
This is a full-time academic-year (9-month) non-tenure track position with a start date of September 1, 2018. The position is renewable and requires a minimal summer commitment.
The Assistant Director contributes to curricular development and teacher training for UMass’s award-winning and nationally-recognized Writing Program. The position offers the unique opportunity to work with graduate teaching associates and undergraduate students. In addition to working collaboratively with other Writing Program staff members to carry out the mission to teach writing to our over 4200 first-year students, the successful candidate will teach two sections of College Writing per year plus two practica on the teaching of writing to graduate students. The successful candidate must be willing to participate in the day-to-day operations of a large university writing program including maintaining regular daily office hours, participating in staff meetings and joint projects, mentoring graduate teaching associates, leading and organizing curricular initiatives, responding to student and teacher emergencies, and collaborating with key university departments and programs. Additionally the successful candidate will co-lead and collaboratively plan the annual new teachers’ week-long orientation taking place prior to fall semester.
Specialization in digital or multi-modal composition, multi-lingual writers, and/or writing pedagogy addressing social, political, and cultural differences preferred.
