Pensacola State College
The First-Time-In-College Advisor position is a full-time 12-month professional level position. The successful candidate will implement strategic initiatives to positively impact enrollment, retention rates, and completion rates of students; carry out ongoing strategies and processes for addressing barriers to student success; and provide academic advising and career guidance for students. Additionally, the successful candidate will assist with new student orientation, registration, and completion efforts for assigned students; review and interpret test placement scores; make appropriate referrals for academic and student support services; and actively engage with first-time-in-college students via calling campaigns, workshops, or other retention strategies. This position reports to the Coordinator, First-Time-In-College Advising Center.
Graduation from an accredited institution with a bachelor’s degree and a valid driver’s license is required. Successful results of a criminal background check are required.
Pursuant to College policy, it is an employment eligibility requirement for an applicant to meet the requirements of § 435.04(2), Florida Statutes, related to background investigations. Any person failing to meet the requirements of the statute will be deemed not qualified to hold employment in this position. A Florida Department of Law Enforcement (FDLE) approved background check will be conducted on every successful candidate as a condition of employment, and any person who fails to disclose any adverse information contained in the background investigation at the time of submitting the employment application will be disqualified from employment.
Prefer academic advising experience; use of intentional advising model; effective caseload management experience; ability to interact with diverse populations in a professional and confidential manner; and proven work experience in addressing and overcoming barriers to student success.
$30,000.00 - $35,000.00 (Depending on the qualifications, the salary is negotiable. However, the college does not generally hire at the top of the range.)
