GENERAL INFORMATION: The Family and Consumer Sciences Department, in the Robbins College of Health and Human Sciences www.baylor.edu/chhs, has approximately 500 undergraduate students with 22 full-time faculty positions and 13 part-time/adjunct faculty members with four full-time and one-part time support staff. The department is organized in four divisions: Apparel Studies, Child and Family Studies, Interior Design, and Nutrition Sciences. The Piper Center for Family Studies and Child Development is an arm of the Child and Family Studies program and employs a director, assistant director and 12 teachers. The apparel programs at Baylor University, with approximately 170 students, are nationally recognized and ranked among the top fashion design and merchandising programs in the nation according to www.fashion-school.org. Program strengths include opportunities for experiential learning, faculty/student interaction, civic engagement and integration of the Christian perspective. With an emphasis on maintaining the latest technological innovations, the Parker Apparel Technology Center supports both the apparel design and the merchandising majors. Other facilities for apparel students include two design studios, a body scanner lab, well equipped textile testing laboratories, and a climate-controlled wear testing chamber with physiological monitoring equipment.
Responsibilities - Teach undergraduate courses in subjects such as textile science, fashion illustration, apparel aesthetics, creative design technologies, apparel assembly, principles of product development and/or apparel quality analysis; mentor students in professional development and to compete in design competitions; participate in relevant professional activities; network with apparel design and merchandising professionals; and provide service to the university, community and profession.
