Assistant Professor in Sociology
Northern Arizona University

The Department of Sociology and Social Work at Northern Arizona University invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor in sociology of health and illness/medical sociology, beginning Fall 2018.

We are seeking applicants with a solid research agenda and potential for grant funding, ability to contribute to interdisciplinary collaborations with health and medical professionals, and potential for teaching undergraduate statistics and health/medical sociology.

Successful applicants will augment the university focus in health equity, social and cultural factors in health and health care, and the department focus on applied sociology and show potential for collaboration with a Ph.D. program in Interdisciplinary Health.

Successful candidates will also have experience and success working with underrepresented groups and show a commitment to diversity.

Candidates should demonstrate the ability to teach undergraduate and graduate statistics, research methods, health/medical sociology and other courses related to the candidate’s area of specialization.

Candidates with a demonstrated commitment supportive of the unique populations of Northern Arizona University are strongly desired.

Job Requirements

Minimum: Ph.D. in Sociology or related social science field completed by August 2018 with a focus in sociology of health and illness/medical sociology.

Preferred: Preference will be given to candidates with active research agendas.

Preference will be given to candidates who show strong potential for securing external funding for research.

Preference will be given to candidates who are prepared to teach health/medical sociology, statistics; and develop sociology of health and illness courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels.

Demonstrate an ability to work collaboratively across disciplinary boundaries.

Evidence of success working with underrepresented groups in an engaging, civil and respectful campus climate.
