Postdoctoral Research Associate

The Department of Biology at the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth has an immediate opening for a postdoctoral research associate to work on a project with the longterm objective to cure an array of intestinal infections through probiotic engineering and microbiome manipulation. A combination of bioinformatics, molecular and synthetic biology tools will be used to design and re-engineer gene clusters involved in pathogen sensing and inhibition (along with other significant modifications) to then be tested using in vivo models of infection.
We seek a highly motivated and creative person, with training in prokaryotic molecular/synthetic biology and bioinformatics. Experience working with mouse models of infection would be an advantage. Postdoctoral researchers will have the unique opportunity to work closely with three members of the recently launched UMass Dartmouth Pipeline for Probiotic Discovery Engineering and Manufacturing (Dr. Bucci, Dr. Silby and Dr. Brigham) with opportunities for extensive scientific and social interactions with collaborators in other major Massachusetts Institutions including UMass Medical School (Dr. McCormick).
The project is funded by the UMass President's Science and Technology fund.
**NOTE: The initial contract will be for one year with the possibility of renewal based on performance and funding.**
