The University of Nevada, Reno (UNR) seeks its next Dean of the Orvis School of Nursing (OSN) to lead this dynamic academic unit within a rapidly growing research university.† The OSN is one of 11 degree-granting, academic units at UNR.
During a time of significant growth and momentum, the Orvis School of Nursing seeks a new Dean.† Founded in 1956 as the first nursing program in the State of Nevada, the Orvis School of Nursing (OSN), at the University of Nevada, Reno, is the only school of nursing in northern Nevada to offer baccalaureate and graduate-level degrees in nursing. The OSN offers a year-round entry-level BSN program, an online RN to BSN program, MSN program, and BSN to DNP program. The OSN offers specializations at the MSN and post-masterís certificate level in Adult Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner, Family Nurse Practitioner, Psychiatric-Mental Nurse Practitioner, Clinical Nurse Leader, and Nurse Educator. Finally, the OSN offers an online post-masterís to DNP program, nurse executive and advanced practice tracks. As an essential part of its mission as a land grant institution, all programs are dedicated to serving the people of Nevada through quality teaching, research, and service.
The OSN boasts 33 talented full-time faculty who are passionate about nursing education.† A tremendous opportunity exists for collaboration with university health science academic units and established community partners. A successful candidate will bring experience in academic nursing leadership combined with a spirit of innovation and a desire to cultivate new and existing relationships with our alumni and generous donors.
Reporting to the Executive Vice President & Provost, the dean is the chief academic officer of the School, serves on the Academic Leadership Council, and is part of the executive leadership team for the University.† The dean provides administrative leadership, vision and support for the OSN faculty, staff, and students, manages the daily operations of the School, and represents the School both within the University and externally at local, state, regional, and national levels.† The successful candidate will bring a collaborative leadership style and serve as a strong advocate for the OSN to internal and external stakeholders.
Candidates for the position of Dean must meet the requirements outlined in the Nevada Nurse Practice Act for administrators of nursing education programs in Nevada, NAC 632.660, including possessing a masterís degree with a major in nursing and a doctorate degree in nursing or related field from an accredited school.† However, the expectation is that the incumbent will hold a Ph.D. or a research-focused doctorate.†
Candidates must also be eligible for tenure and the rank of professor within the OSN.†
The successful candidate will possess a distinguished record of research, excellence in teaching, experience with development and external funding, familiarity with strategic planning, and at least five years of administrative experience in higher education.†
We seek a dean who has demonstrated experience in both traditional and online educational programs.
