Associate Director, Teaching and Learning Assessment

The Center for Academic Exellence and Support is seeking an individual to direct the efforts and resources for teaching and learning assessment with the goal of innovating and improving assessment efforts of individual academic programs within SPS.

This will be done by supporting SPS program leaders and faculty in three specific areas: articulation of meaningful, measurable learning outcomes, design and advisement on the collection of evidence of the measurement of achievement of outcomes, and advise on the use of assessment results as a part of a continuous improvement model of learning assessment and program evaluation and testing.

The NYU School of Professional Studies offers a broad range of degree and noncredit programs that are professionally oriented, integrate theory with real-world applications, and are taught by faculty members who are leaders and innovators in their fields. The School of Professional Studies captures the expertise of the key sectors that make New York City a great global capital, such as real estate, finance, marketing, public relations, global affairs, hospitality and tourism, sports management, philanthropy and fundraising, communications/media, writing, the arts, and others. Full- and part-time students enroll in on-site and online credit programs, including graduate degrees, graduate certificates, and undergraduate degrees for both adults returning to school and traditional-aged students. In addition, working professionals and other adult learners pursue career objectives or intellectual discovery in over 2,500 courses, diploma programs, conferences, and seminars annually.

Job Requirements

Required Education:
Bachelor's degree

Preferred Education:
Advanced degree in educational assessment, higher education administration, or related field or equivalent combination of education/experience.

Required Experience:
Min 5 years relevant experience or equivalent combination. Must include experience in leading the creation of assessment rubrics, writing learning outcomes, and admissions/placement testing. Experience collecting, analyzing, synthesizing, and interpreting quantitative and qualitative data.

Preferred Experience:
Min 7 years related experience including experience merging quantitative data from multiple data sets and databases. Experience analyzing and interpreting longitudinal data sets. Experience in managing resources, and policy development for interdisciplinary academic programs. Demonstrated ability to present and publish on issues related to educational assessment and evaluation issues in higher education, including grant-funded research.

Required Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Ability to exercise sound judgment and excellent discretion, employing the utmost confidentiality, maintaining and collecting student and institutional data. Knowledge of and ability to develop, implement and interpret education policies and procedures with regard to student and program assessments. Excellent micro- and macro-organizational skills, demonstrated aptitude for critical thinking and problem-solving. Strong research, writing and presentation skills, and the ability to communicate complex and sensitive information diplomatically both verbally and in writing to individuals at all levels. Expert ability to collect, analyze, and interpret quantitative and qualitative data, including both large and small data sets that may have missing and/or invalid cases. Ability to work collaboratively with a wide variety of stakeholders. Ability to lead diverse, inter-departmental initiatives, and manage and prioritize complex projects in line with the School's mission. Ability to forge and maintain partnerships with internal and third-party constituencies. Knowledge of, and ability to deploy, current technology and trends in educational assessment and program evaluation.

Preferred Skills, Knowledge and Abilities:
Expert knowledge and understanding of educational assessment and evaluation issues in higher education and experience working with credit and noncredit educational programs and/or student populations. Proficiency in AWS/SIS/PeopleSoft, database and spreadsheet software, and quantitative analysis software (e.g., SPSS, SAS)
