Job Description

Canada Research Chair in Nursing - Chronicity
University of Alberta

NU Nursing
Competition No.  -   A102333469
Closing Date  -   Will remain open until filled.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta seeks to nominate a Canada Research Chair in Chronicity with a strong program of research relating to issues pertaining to chronicity.

The Canada Research Chairs Program (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/program-programme/index-eng.aspx) was established by the Canadian Government to foster world-class research excellence. Tier 2 chairs are intended for exceptional emerging scholars (i.e., candidates must have been an active researcher in their field for fewer than 10 years at the time of nomination). Applicants who are more than 10 years from having earned their highest degree (and where career breaks exist, such as maternity, parental or extended sick   leave, clinical training, etc.) may have their eligibility for a Tier 2 chair assessed through the program’s Tier 2 justification process. Please contact the research grants office for more information.

Nominations to Tier II Chairs occurs in April and October. Please consult the Canada Research Chairs website for full program information, including further details on eligibility criteria. Eligibility is determined according to CRC guidelines (http://www.chairs-chaires.gc.ca/program-programme/nomination-mise¬en¬candidature-eng.aspx#s2).

The appointee is expected to develop and lead a program of highly credible, relevant and innovative focused research that will contribute to capacity building in the Faculty and enhance our partnerships with the health care system.
The Chair's contribution to capacity building will involve some undergraduate and graduate teaching, graduate student research training, mentoring of colleagues, attracting future researchers, and the development of collaborative initiatives.

This is a tenure track position with a competitive salary commensurate with qualifications, a comprehensive benefits package, significant ongoing research support, and relocation assistance.  Appointment to the Faculty can be made prior to nomination to the Tier II Chair position.  Internal and external candidates are invited to apply.

The Faculty of Nursing at the University of Alberta is one of the top nursing faculties in Canada and one of the largest in the country. We have a diverse range of programs and students. Our priorities include:

  • Providing students with exceptional learning opportunities in both undergraduate and graduate programs
  • Maintaining excellence in research through mentorship and support
  • Enhancing the integration of teaching, research and practice
  • Infusing global citizenship into all aspects of academic nursing
