Rush University Medical Center, a nationally recognized clinical and academic institution and the teaching hospital for Rush Medical and Nursing Colleges, located in downtown Chicago, invites nominations and applications for the position of Chairperson of the Department of Family Medicine.

The Department of Family Medicine at Rush is committed to patient care, education and research. Our physicians are nationally recognized, and many are involved in innovative research and demonstration projects. The Department encompasses five Rush-owned practices with several other affiliated physicians strategically located across the Chicago area and has helped pave the way for ambulatory education at Rush. Our educational contributions span the four years of medical school and include the family medicine component of the primary care clerkship, sponsored elective courses, and the highly acclaimed Family Medicine Leadership Program.

Job Requirements

The successful candidate will possess a distinguished, nationally recognized academic career with strong clinical and research credentials, a proven record of administration and management in an academic medical center setting, demonstrated commitment to education, record of collaborative leadership, commitment to academic excellence and community engagement are also desirable.

The successful candidate will have considerable experience mentoring junior faculty and possess knowledge of recruitment, utilization and retention. In addition, they will have credentials that merit appointment as Associate Professor or Professor, have an MD or equivalent degree, board certification in Family Medicine, possess a demonstrated commitment to innovation, and have the leadership skills necessary for guiding faculty development and advancement across research, clinical and academic missions.

As a department leader, the Chairperson will provide an energetic and progressive vision for growing clinical volume, improving productivity and further defining clinical expertise within the academic model.
