Job Description

Director of Community Engaged Learning - Health
Stanford University

Director of Community Engaged Learning - Health Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education Two- year Fixed Term

The Director of Community Engaged Learning (DCEL)-Health strengthens and expands community engaged learning opportunities in academic courses, research, and internships related to public health broadly defined. As part of the Community Engaged Learning and Research team, the DCEL-Health works with an interdisciplinary team of five other DCELs located in the Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. While each of the DCELs has a distinct thematic focus (education, environmental sustainability, health, engineering, human rights, and identity), they share the goal of expanding the quantity and quality of community engaged learning opportunities available to Stanford undergraduates. Each DCEL is expected to support a distinct portfolio of new courses; however, their success is also gauged on their ability to work collaboratively with each other, and with campus and community partners.

Successful candidates will have strong higher education experience (e.g., teaching at the undergraduate level, or supporting campus community partnerships), familiarity with service-learning pedagogy and best practices, and an advanced degree in a public health or related field, or scholarly and professional accomplishments indicative of an ability to work as a peer with campus and community partners. The DCEL-Health position has four core areas of responsibility: community engaged learning course facilitation and support; faculty outreach and development; community partner outreach; and program administration.

The DCELs report to the Associate Director of the Haas Center for Public Service. Preference will be given to candidates who are able to start by January 2018. This position is initially for a 2-year fixed-term with the possibility of an extension.
