Description/Job Summary

***note this is a 6 month contract position***


The Refugee Youth Project (RYP) Volunteer Specialist recruits, trains, places, and provides ongoing support to volunteers in the Refugee Youth Projectís after school programs and individual mentoring program.

Job Specific Responsibilities:
  • Recruit and train at least 200 program volunteers per grant year
  • Oversee individual mentoring program, which will include matching volunteers with students
  • Maintain volunteer database and files
  • Update, revise, and supplement volunteer training manual and lead volunteer trainings
  • Maintain partnerships with institutions that provide volunteers and develop additional partnerships
  • Lead monthly volunteer support sessions for individual mentors
  • Recruit and supervise program interns
  • Monitor and collect registration forms and other documents as needed
  • Communicate clearly and effectively with the Refugee Youth Project Coordinator
  • Chaperone youth field trips as required
  • Be able to work some evenings and weekends
  • Other duties as needed

Job Requirements

Minimum Education and Training Requirements:
  • Bachelorís degree or†above; preferably in Education, TESOL, or a related field
  • At least a year of experience coordinating volunteers
  • One year of youth program development or program management required
  • Up to one year of classroom teaching experience, preferably teaching refugee and/or immigrant students
  • Outgoing and able to work well with young adults
  • At least a year of experience working in a highly multicultural environment
  • Reliable, dedicated, enthusiastic team player
  • Ability to use word processing, email, and electronic record keeping programs as needed to meet other job requirements
