Tenure-Track Appointment in American Politics and Research Methods

Political Science Department
Hope College

The Hope College political science department invites applications for a tenure-track appointment in American politics beginning the 2018-19 academic year. We seek candidates who are broadly trained in American politics and who are qualified to teach undergraduate research methods. The teaching expectations include an introductory survey course in American government, courses in American political institutions (congress, the presidency), and courses in one or more of the following areas: ethnic/minority politics, domestic political economy, public opinion and mass media, and state and local politics. The position also includes participation in Hope’s highly regarded Washington D.C. honors program. PhDs and/or ABDs who have made substantial progress toward completion of the dissertation are welcome to apply.

Hope College is a Christian, co-educational, residential liberal arts college affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. Candidates should have a demonstrated ability to combine teaching excellence with genuine scholarly promise, and should be committed to the character and goals of a liberal arts college firmly rooted in the historic Christian faith.

The college has consistently ranked among the nation's top liberal arts colleges and is featured in the book Colleges That Change Lives.

Hope College is financially sound, with more than 50 consecutive years of balanced budgets, an endowment of approximately $200 million and no deferred maintenance, and over $140 million invested in the construction of new facilities during the past 12 years. The college completed its newest buildings, the Kruizenga Art Museum and the Jack H. Miller Center for Musical Arts, in 2015 and will open the Jim and Martie Bultman Student Center in 2017.

In 2015, Hope College launched its 10-year strategic plan, Hope for the World: 2025, which consists of six goals, focused on: academics; Christian formation; global engagement; community; reputation and influence; and value. Developed by the campus community, the strategic plan supports the college's mission, "to educate students for lives of leadership and service in a global society through academic and co-curricular programs of recognized excellence in the liberal arts and in the context of the historic Christian faith."
