Clark University

Clark University’s University Advancement seeks to fill the position of Development Research Analyst.

Reporting to the Director of Data and Advancement Research and working closely with major gift officers, the successful candidate will help to identify new prospects, assign capacity ratings, and assist in the development of strategies for engaging and cultivating major gift prospects.

The Development Research Analyst is primarily responsible for the identification and initial assessment of new prospects capable of contributing significant financial support to Clark University, as well as providing detailed research on previously identified prospects.

Duties and Responsibilities

Included in a range of responsibilities, the Development Research Analyst will provide advanced research on individuals, corporations, and foundations using a wide variety of biographical, organizational and financial sources, including state-of-the-art online database services, internet websites, library and government sources and other external repositories of public information.

The Research Analyst will analyze the gathered information to assess financial capacity, philanthropic tendencies, giving propensity and linkages to campus.

The Research Analyst will evaluate research results to cultivate and implement further research strategies using intelligence-gathering methods of the information profession.

The Research Analyst will write profiles with content and syntax appropriate to specific audiences and will decipher complex financial, legal and corporate language into easily understandable terms while following University standards of discretion and confidentiality and will extract and communicate key information which directs cultivation and solicitation strategies.

In addition, the Research Analyst will maintain prospect data, including ratings, affinity and connections acquired through research in a database system that is accessible to campus wide fundraising staff and used to develop future cultivation strategies, as well as other duties as assigned.

Job Requirements


The successful candidate will have a bachelor’s degree and 2 or more years’ experience in development research or other related research experience, such as financial or legal research, and well-developed writing and research skills. The candidate will have excellent analytical, verbal and interpersonal skills as well as strong project management and problem-solving skills with the ability to work in a demanding environment.

The ideal candidate will have the ability to conceptualize and develop proactive prospecting methodologies to support organizational goals, including data mining, sophisticated constituent database queries; the ability to recall, recognize and communicate interrelated information pertaining to University benefactors and prospects, and the ability to maintain confidentiality and work with sensitive information.

Technical qualifications include strong computer skills and demonstrated background in Internet-based research, experience working with a relational database a necessity, preferably Raisers Edge, as well as the Microsoft Office suite of products, including excel. The candidate will have the ability to download and export information between systems.
