Position Summary
Provides analytic/diagnostic services to computer users regarding computer hardware and software problems.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
Provides technical assistance in answering questions and resolving computer hardware/software problems in person, via telephone, or using remote assistance. Troubleshoots and repairs simple network connectivity issues and refers more complex issues to location network specialists and/or district network technicians. Installs, configures, maintains, and repairs software/hardware, desktops and laptop PC’s and peripherals such as printers in a relevant operating system environment. Removes old equipment and performs data migration to new machines as needed. Provides comprehensive technical assistance and initial training to computer users. Participates as a team member in planning, developing and implementation of new network systems and revisions/updates to existing systems. Provide guidance/work direction to related staff and/or serves as a project leader for particular systems projects. Maintains an inventory of installed software and software licensing compliance. Some positions may order, stock and maintain inventory of equipment replacement parts and supplies based on cost guidelines provided by supervisor. Provides system access support. Provides system support services for location wireless network and/or laptops. Evaluates package software or hardware solutions from third party vendors; evaluate and test; recommend acquisition and/or alternative solutions; coordinate acquisition/installation. May develop and maintain user documentation. Maintains log of all repairs and services performed. Set up computer stations for registration. Some positions will serve as the location telephone coordinator depending on location. Performs related duties as assigned.
The position must have a working knowledge of Microsoft Windows, Microsoft Office, Microsoft Outlook and knowledge of Active Directory. A knowledge of Script file creation, VMWare and SQL is a plus. This person must be able to research and learn other applications and hardware as needed.

This position will be expected to support the maintenance, inventory and imaging of all college, laptops, classrooms and office computers. The position will also be expected to support college laptops, printers, re image hard drives, virus protection and removal, handheld devices, tablets, iPads, video displays, data video projectors, Crestron control systems, conference call equipment, document cameras, RFID, media carts, conference rooms, and other equipment as needed.
The person will need to have a working knowledge of how to repair computer equipment. This position will have a working knowledge of computer virus protection and removal.

This person will work with students, college employees and administrators. The person in this position will be able to handle frequent inquiries and interruptions. The person in the position will have communication skills that allow them to work with college hardware and software vendors for equipment repair, replacement or purchase.


The person in this position will be able to work independently, and meet strict deadlines and goals for the department. This person will be a self-starter and take ownership of all task and duties assigned. This position will be expected to act as team lead on various projects assigned from start to finish. This position will be able to instruct other team members and monitoring the project as it progresses. The position will be expected to identify new projects and scope needs for other team members to follow.


This position will interact with all levels of college staff, faculty and administrators. The position will work with other Dallas County Community College District (DCCCD) employees as necessary.   This position on occasion, could be asked to work an adjusted schedule that could include weekdays, evenings and weekends. The regular hours for this position are 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM, Monday – Friday.
This is a large campus and this position requires a lot of walking to cover all areas.


Job Requirements

Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
Demonstrated ability in critical analysis, problem-solving of complex software/hardware systems, troubleshoots of imagining and printing systems, desktop communications software, and customer and personal service. Ability to work under minimal supervision and duties and tasks are frequently non-routine. Ability to use and understand repair manuals. Ability to communicate effectively with individuals from diverse backgrounds. Strong knowledge and experience providing effective customer service.

Physical Requirements
May be required to lift and move materials and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds.

Minimum Knowledge and Experience
Associate’s degree or higher plus one year of experience in a computer related field or graduation from high school or equivalent plus three years of experience in a computer related field. Official transcript will be required. *** Will be subject to a criminal background check and fingerprinting.***
