Position Summary:

The Toddler (2-3 year olds) Teacher is responsible for all aspects of the 2-3 year old classroom operations including planning and implementing a high quality, developmentally appropriate early childhood program, conducting assessment and developmental screening of the children, and training and supervising Assistant Teachers, Student Aides, Fieldwork Students, Interns, and Volunteers working in the classroom. The Toddler Teacher is responsible for communicating with and establishing partnerships with parents and serves as a positive, professional, and effective member of the Child Development Center Staff.

Job Duties and Responsibilities:

Planning and Implementation: Plan, develop, and implement daily lesson plan to support children and meet the objectives of the Creative Curriculum, and the guidelines of NAEYC and MSDE. Maintain an ITERS rating above 6.0 to ensure the center achieves a Level 5 rating in the MD EXCELS program. Prepare and maintain the classroom learning environment with varied and engaging activities, interest centers, and materials.

Communication: Respond to parent inquiries concerning progress of children. Provide frequent verbal and written feedback to parents about their child's learning and education. Provide daily progress reports through e-mail or text messaging using the Kaymbu platform. Disseminate newsletters, calendars, and other announcements using Kaymbu. Create a parent information board with highlights of the day. Attend meetings with the director when needed, and attend staff meetings, orientations, and open houses.

Assessment: Score and review ASQ developmental screenings. Conduct formal parent-teacher conferences at the end of each semester and on an as-needed basis during the year. Maintain digital portfolios following the Creative Curriculum Portfolio Assessment guidelines, which include weekly observations, one weekly anecdotal observation, photos of the children participating in various activities, 2-3 art samples per month, periodic math and language assessments, and other samples of work for each child (average of 14-18 full- and part-time children)

Training and Supervision: Train and supervise the Assistant Teachers, Student Aides, Fieldwork Students, Interns, and volunteers on the policies and procedures for a safe and healthy learning environment for toddlers. Train Student Aides on appropriate procedures for diapering and helping children with the toilet learning. Supervise the completion of daily tasks assigned on the classroom checklists and other assigned tasks. Supervise interactions of staff members with children, parents, and other staff members.

Special Needs Consultation: Confer with the director, parents,staff and behavioral specialists or speech therapists concerning children with difficult or challenging behaviors or with speech/language or developmental delays.

Professional Development: Participate in the Maryland Child Care Credential Program at a minimum of a Level 5. Maintain certification in First Aid and Infant/Child CPR.

Job Requirements

Required Qualifications:

Two - five years of teaching experience in an early child care and development setting

Earned bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year institution

Effective and strong communication, problem solving, and priority setting skills as well as maintaining an overall positive and professional attitude /disposition.

Proficient computer skills with ability to operate PC and tablet devices.

Ability to effectively plan, organize and implement educational activities.

Ability to make decisions on behalf of children and protect their well-being.

Must be able to manage confidential information.

Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds

Preferred Qualifications:

Earned bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education, Child Development or related field

Five plus years of teaching experience in an early child care and development setting

Strong computer skills with expertise in Windows based programs, such as the Microsoft Office Suite
