Massey University’s Construction undergraduate and post graduate programmes have experienced considerable growth in the past four years - all three are in the University's five fastest growing programmes. The Massey Bachelors of Construction is the only construction degree delivered by a University in New Zealand. It currently has two majors; Quantity Surveying and Construction Management. Both majors are accredited RICS. The Quantity Surveying major is also accredited by PAQS and NZIQS. The construction programs have been acknowledged as an exemplar of work blended education. Massey also has a thriving post graduate Construction program. We commenced offering a taught Post Graduate Diploma and Masters of Construction in 2005, which is providing higher education to both domestic and international students. There are currently five majors in the Post graduate offering including Construction Project Management, Quantity Surveying, Building Technology, Construction Law, and Facilities Management. PhD students are researching is arrange of subjects from Construction Law, Healthy Schools, Disaster Recovery, Lean Construction, Professional Practice, Health and Safety and waste reduction. Strong growth in all Construction programs growth has led to many new staff positions within the Construction team.
The Construction programmes are housed within the College of Sciences, and have strong linkages with the College of Health and Massey Business School.
The School is now looking to appoint a second Professor in Construction, to provide additional leadership in research and teaching, expand the Construction undergraduate and postgraduate programmes and mentor staff and supervise post graduates.
In this leadership appointment, you will contribute to the teaching programmes and administration, and will serve on College and University committees. You will also be expected to contribute to line management of academic staff in the discipline and/or academic programme management.
This role is based in Massey University's Auckland campus, at Albany. The Economist Intelligence Unit's World's most liveable cities index of 2016 ranked Auckland in 8th place. Albany is located near picturesque East Coast beaches, semi-rural communities and the Auckland CBD. The North Shore area has a number of excellent schools and recreation facilities.
To be successful in appointment to this role, you will have a relevant PhD, a strong record of research and publications in a field relevant to construction economics, quantity surveying, construction project management, BIM, building technology or construction law.
You will also demonstrate strong achievements in research, teaching and engagement with industry, and have demonstrated leadership qualities.
Construction industry experience will be advantageous. Consideration will be given to applications at the Associate Professor level.
