The Curator of Audiovisual Materials and Media Arts History has a unique opportunity to oversee a world-class collection of motion picture related materials and other items of enduring historical interest. This position presents the successful applicant with the challenge of being immersed in historical audiovisual formats while also exploring emerging technologies related to discovery, access, and preservation.

This is a continuing faculty status track position (equivalent of tenure) in the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University. Job Requirements

Required Education/Experience:†

  • Masterís degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution with two years archival experience or equivalent Masterís degree with archival training and two years archival experience. Individuals with a Bachelorís degree and at least five years of related archival experience, who are committed to completing the MLS within a specified period of time, may be considered.
  • Additional Masterís or PhD degree in History or another area related to the position responsibilities is preferred.
  • Knowledge of and practical experience in working with a variety of audio, video, and motion picture film formats, including the ability to process and preserve photographs or other audiovisual materials.
  • Knowledge of legal and ethical issues affecting photographs and other audiovisual materials.
  • Familiarity with archival collections management systems or databases.
  • Demonstrated knowledge in Western U.S., Utah, and Mormon History.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of photographic and film history.
  • Demonstrated ability to appraise, arrange, and describe archival collections.
  • Demonstrated ability with archival and library descriptive standards applicable to audiovisual materials including Describing Archives: A Content Standard (DACS).
