Senior Researcher, Director of Health Services Research

The Central Michigan University College of Medicine is seeking a highly qualified faculty member for a senior level, tenured or tenure-track research position. The position will be at the Associate Professor or Professor rank and serve as the Director of Health Services Research for the College of Medicine. This new position will oversee the initiation and development of the College of Medicine’s health services research program. The College of Medicine’s mission is “to prepare physicians focused on improving access to high quality health care in Michigan with an emphasis on rural and medically underserved regions.” The ideal candidate will be a visionary program builder with a record of engagement with the communities and populations of rural and underserved areas. Preference will be given to candidates with a track-record of independent extramural funding. The College of Medicine’s initiatives in this area are focused on, but not limited to, health outcomes, clinical and general epidemiology, and population health research relevant to the data rich population of rural, central, and northern Michigan.
The College of Medicine has committed significant resources to ensure the development of this program that include competitive salary and benefits for the candidate, financial support and space for the candidate’s research program, as well as support for the candidate to hire and support at least two additional faculty in this focus area.
The successful candidate is expected to contribute to undergraduate and graduate medical education programs in our college and affiliated Colleges and Programs. Significant time will be protected for program development, research, and mentoring.
The CMU College of Medicine welcomed its inaugural class in the summer of 2013. The innovative medical school curriculum is designed to prepare students for practice in mid- to northern Michigan and the Upper Peninsula, with particular attention to primary care needs in the region. - Doctoral degree, PhD or MD/DO or other terminal degree with an emphasis in epidemiology, sociology, economics, biostatistics, public health, public administration or other related disciplines
- Experience with independent design and conduct of research consistent with discipline(s)
- Minimum of five years of experience in health services related research, including a proven record of designing and managing complex research projects.
- History of external funding and publishing original health services research as a senior author in peer-reviewed journals.
- Strong collaborative and communication skills.
- Demonstrated commitment to diversity by working to develop a culture of inclusion and mutual respect.
Research – while all areas of research will be considered, expertise in health outcomes, clinical outcomes, comparative effectiveness, medical decision making, health disparities, cost-effectiveness analysis or related topics is desired.
Teaching – experience with cross-disciplinary teaching; case and/or problem-based medical education; experience with, or a strong knowledge of pedagogical approaches such as team based and problem based learning.
